PJSC Yenakiieve Steel starts renovation of BOF vessel No.3

29 October 2012

At PJSC Yenakiieve Steel of Metinvest Group the annual capital repair period has been started, in the course of which 11 major production units in Sinter, Blast Furnace and Basic Oxygen Furnace Shops will be retrofitted. These activities are carried out within the Technological Development Programme, meant for Metinvest Group enterprises. Funds earmarked for the units capital repair exceed UAH 138 M.

The biggest reconstruction with investments around UAH 90 M will be carried out in the BOF Shop of PJSC Yenakiieve Steel. Within 60 days a major overhaul with reconstruction of gas exhaust duct of BOF vessel No.3 will be carried out here. In the course of this overhaul the 160-tonnes BOF vessel will be equipped with an up-to-date water heating cooler-160 for BOF gases, which enables to reduce air emissions from BOF vessel almost twofold. The new gas-tight cooler of 400 tonnes is fitted with automatic system of regulation, control, alarm and blockings (design of “Energostal”, the Ukrainian State Scientific and Technical Centre). Moreover, for the first time ever at Yenakiieve Steel the BOF vessel gas cleaning complex will be equipped with the tailor–made fan rotor manufactured by Siemens VAI. The technological features of this equipment allow absorbing maximum volume of dust contained in the off-gases, and thus enhancing the ecological reliability of BOF vessel No.3. It is planned that two other vessels will be consequently fitted with such innovative rotors.

“A radical renovation of BOF vessels was started last year at BOF vessel No.2, where the major overhaul with reconstruction of gas exhaust duct was carried out. For BOF vessel No.3 upgrading we decided to take the same principle approach, but with introducing the advanced design changes of water heating cooler for BOF gases” - commented the course of capital repairs period Aleksander Podkorytov, the General Director of PJSC Yenakiieve Steel.
