A football team from Makiivka Branch of Children and Youth Football Academy functioning at PJSC Yenakiieve Steel, Metinvest Group, won the “Metinvest Cup-2012” Tournament in U-11 age division. The tournament was held within the framework of Metinvest Group corporate social programme “Development of Children's and Youth Football”. Young champions were awarded at “Donbass Arena” stadium in Donetsk during “Shakhtar” vs. “Dnepr” match halftime on September 28th, 2012.
14 teams from Donetsk, Lugansk and Dnepropetrovsk regions took part at this tournament. Some 300 children and teenagers, representing different branches of Shakhtar FC “Children and Youth Football Academy” (DUFA), competed in three age divisions (according to the years of birth 2000, 2001 and 2002). A tough struggle raised up the following winners of “Metinvest Cup-2012”:
- Juniors – the team of PJSC Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant Academy branch;
- Intermediates – the team of Makiivka Branch, PJSC Yenakiieve Steel;
- Seniors – the team of PJSC Azovstal Iron and Steel Works.
Young football players of Makiivka Branch, PJSC Yenakiieve Steel, competing in the intermediate age division (born in 2001) have outplayed the team of scientific and production association Inkor Chemicals, Dzerzhinsk (3:0) and the team of Inguletsky Iron Ore Enrichment Works, Krivoy Rog (1:0). At the final match young football players from Makiivka have competed with a team of Krasnodon Coal Company and snatched the victory winning on penalty. Danila Makarov was acknowledged as the best goalkeeper, Kostya Romanenko as the best defender and Danila Grinenko as the best forwards.
– These boys performed very well, although they have been training at the academy for only a year and a half, - highlighted Ravil Fahretdinov, the coach of Makiivka Branch team, Yenakiieve Steel. - It is a matter of particular significance for our players to take part in such a tournament. They have tasted the victory. And I am convinced that the medal ceremony held at “Donbass Arena”, an opportunity to become closer to their football icons and to feel focused attention of thousands of fans will inspire our boys to strive for further perfection of their skills.
Awarding of the winners was held at “Donbass Arena” stadium during “Shakhtar” vs. “Dnepr” match halftime. Young football players were prized with cups and medals. They were also given a unique opportunity to communicate with prominent players of Shakhtar FC, including the captain Darijo Srna, midfielders Tomas Huebschman and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, defenders Razvan Ratz and Yaroslav Rakitskiy, as well as to take some photos with them.
It should be reminded that “Metinvest Cup” Children and Youth Football Tournament has been already held for the second time under the corporate social programme “Development of Children’s and Youth Football” implemented by Metinvest Group in partnership with Shakhtar FC. The programme is focused on promotion of healthy lifestyle among children and young people. 12 teams, represented the cities of Metinvest Group presence, took part in the tournament in 2011.
